MY STORY IN A NUTSHELL

Growing up, I always gravitated to both language and design. I assumed that only one of them could be chosen as my career because they didn’t seem similar enough to combine. Fortunately, my assumptions were wrong.

Today, I am a teacher and translator of both German and English. I love to use the power of language, whether I’m translating newsletters full of slang to a niche audience or teaching a student how to make themselves understood in the clearest manner possible. 

In my free time, I am the editor and designer of an indie magazine called GRÆS, which I founded in 2019. It’s a magazine for language-lovers and frequent travelers. This project is my way of keeping both design and language in my life at all times. 

But my life isn’t all about work – I like to play too. You’ll often find me out enjoying a few (dark) beers, taking my Nikon D850 for a walk around the city, or climbing the mountains of Europe.

WHAT I GET EXCITED ABOUT

• Learning about the art of influence and persuasion in both verbal and written communication.
• Making content accessible for all – I’m not a fan of those who try to be impressive by using words meant to exclude certain audiences.
• Exploring the etymology of words and how their meanings and connotations change over time.
• Finding interesting designs / layouts ‘out in the wild’ and using them as inspiration in my own work.
• Learning and using foreign languages (heavily concentrated on Italian for now).
